Innovation in agriculture

COUR DES COMPTES

For the period 2018-2023, the Court estimates that the State has committed around €6.7 billion to support innovation in agriculture, i.e. more than €1 billion per year. The aim of this support is to deploy innovative solutions in farms, including those from French Agritech (digital, robotics, genomics). Public policy aims to accelerate the agro-ecological transition, in order to increase the dual economic and environmental performance of French agri-food production systems. Innovation has always been a driving force for agricultural and rural development. It is now considered a priority for the success of the “third agricultural revolution” and for orienting agriculture towards systems that are more competitive, more resilient to the impacts of climate change and more respectful of biodiversity and natural resources. The assessment covered the three segments of the innovation process that are downstream of research and development: adoption by farmers, and the dissemination and valorisation of innovations in the field of Agritech.
